A few other sand dam pics

Driving a typical "road" to a sand dam

Getting drinking water

Seed bank

Cisterns are also used to harvest rainwater from rooftops

MCC sponsored dairy cow, This has higher input costs (purchasing, higher quality feed, than "native" cows) but should provide more income.

Lots of interesting geology in the area.  Here gneiss, common metamorphic rock in the area.

AT UDO there is an agro-forestry demo plot, with various native and non-native trees that have medicinal or otherwise uses.

UDO accomodation

Farming in a gully

Sand dam water pumped to a holding tank for irrigation

Intercropping corn and watermelons

Lots of birds that I did not have a chance to really investigate.  Here a hammerkop (heron) is at a sand dam.  Presumably the dams also restore the local ecology, although that has not be documented to my knowledge.

Donkey takes a break from water hauling to roll in the sand!
