Starting the climb

Finding his way to the top

A mystery how they found their way up the smooth rock.

We biked while the boys climbed.  Hell's Gate has no predators, so is one of the few parks where it is easy to do outdoor activities without worrying about the animals.

Doug was cajoled into trying a climb.  It was, as they say, an "epic fail".  I had no idea what I was supposed to hang onto on those rocks!  I blame it on not having climbing shoes and trying to climb with clunky hiking shoes (but probably there are other reasons I only got this far...)

Bee-eater

Baby hippo on top of its mother

Colobus monkeys were our companions at the campground

It was a long grueling drive on a bad road to the Mara, very badly washboarded.

Topi

Lots of mongooses on the Mara, they were some of our favorite to watch.

Two-headed giraffe?

A bunch of crocs on the Mara River.

Lilac-breasted Roller

Southern Ground Hornbill

Sacred Ibis

Pin-tailed Whydah

Waterbuck and zebra

Buffalo

One often feels drivers on Kenya drivers are using nothing but prayer in their driving skills!
