Visit to the sand dam that the EMU cross-cultural helped to construct in 2014, Machakos/Makueni area southeast of Nairobi.
Sand has filled the dam and vegetation is growing alongside the banks. |
A scoop hole several hundred meters upstream from the dam, probably used for drinking water. |
Napier grass for fodder, along with vegetable gardens, grow along the edge now that water is available. |
The raised water table results in more water downstream as well, here looking off the dam. |
Sand has backed up 500-700 meters, so well up the valley. |
A nice looking dam...well done EMU cross-cultural! |
